American Motor Corporation, popularly known as AMC was founded in 1954 with the merger of Nash-Kelvinator and Hudson Company. The day when the two companies merged was marked as the largest merger in US history with a total value of $198,000,000.
In 1970′s most American motor companies were having a struggle with sales and profits. It was the year 1979 when AMC could not hold much the downturn in the auto industry and decided to partner with Renault.
The partnership wasn’t successful and in 1987 the company was purchase by Chrysler Corporation, which later discontinued AMC brands.
To extend the line of products the AMC started manufacturing AMC truck for military and other specialty purposes. The military specialized products were later known as AM General.
