Hummer was a popular SUV and truck brand which was marketed by AM General. This brand was founded in the year 1992 and was original based on its military Humvee version. By the year 1998, General Motors had acquired the company and began marketing three vehicles under the brand name.
These vehicles were the original Humvee based H1, the Hummer H2 and Hummer H3 models, which were modeled for smaller and civilian markets based on the platforms of GM. By 2008, however GM began reviewing the business viability of the brand, which was under discussion till 2009. By early 2010, however, in February itself, GM announced that Hummer Trucks would be discontinued soon.

Hummer more popularly know as Humvee or HMMWV was first debuted as High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle and was put for civilian use in 1992. In the year 1998 General Motors purchased the brand and started marketing three of the Hummer brands namely the Hummer H1 which was based on the original Hummer used for civilian missions, the second was named as Hummer H2 and the third more street ready Hummer H3.
General Motors dint wanted to loose the Hummer brand when the company was registered as bankrupt in 2009. So General Motors had decided to sell the Hummer brand to Chinese automaker Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company. The deal was completed in 2010.
