Navistar is quite optimistic about the future of electric vehicles or EVs which are specifically designed for use in light commercial applications. The company thinks that the time of these vehicles has finally come. This is because of the recent rise in the prices of diesel, which are projected to remain at a high for quite sometime.
Navistar’s electric truck eStar, director of marketing, sales and strategy, Mark Aubry, explained that what they are witnessing is a joining of many factors. More strong EV technology is currently being deployed; the costs of batteries reduce, while there is also a rising concern regarding the future and current price of petroleum fuels.

Eaton, one of the leading transmission manufacturing companies recently announced that they had approved their new automated mechanical UltraShift Plus transmissions as data book choices for the selected models of Freightliner’s Class 8 Cascadia truck and heavy duty Volvo VN power units, at the Mid-America Trucking Show, last week.
In the Cascadia series, the Eaton UltraShift Plus will be available in the 125″ BBC truck which is powered by Detroit’s DD13, DD16 or DD15 diesel engine. This transmission will also be offered with the 113″ BBC Cascadia model which is also equipped with a Detroit DD13 diesel engine. The North American division of Volvo Trucks recently announced that they would be recalling 700 workers as well as boosting their production levels in the New River Valley, Virginia plant. The new addition of workers will bring the total number of people employed at the facility to just above 2,200.
The Senior VP of the company’s marketing and sales department, Ron Huibers, said that their customer response to their products especially regarding performance of their near zero emission engines and fuel efficiency continue being positive. In combination with an improving economy, this positive response has helped them in continuing with the momentum established with their last year’s increase of market share.

Swedish manufacturer of trucks, AB Volvo, recently appointed a new CEO, Olof Persson who is Volvo Construction Equipment’s current president. Olof will be the new CEO and President of the company, effective from September 1 this year.
Olof Persson will be assuming the position for AB Volvo’s president and Volvo Group’s CEO, on September 1, when the current CEO and President, Leif Jonhansson, will retire. By May 1, this year, Olof Persson will be the deputy CEO as well as the executive vice president and will work with the current CEO and President, Leif Jonhansson.

The administrator for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, David Strickland, said that the US is at the cusp of major technological advances which will help to bring about efficiency in the transportation of goods, during his keynote address at the Green Truck Summit.
David was referring to the improvements made in fuel efficiency which will result fromt the standards of fuel economy set by the NHTSA for heavy duty work trucks, which wil begin implementation with the trucks of the model years 2014, and also the other breakthroughs like the communications between vehicles.

The Ford Co. has introduced a new gasoline powered engine for its medium duty F-650 work pick up truck. While Ford had discontinued the use of the V10 6.8 liter engine for the Super Duty 2011 pick up trucks as an option, the first use of this engine will be available for the medium duty 2012 F-650 chassis truck. This truck made its debut at the work truck show of NTEA in Indianapolis.
The present F-650 commercial pick up has an inline six Cummins diesel engine, which is a variation of the same oil burner six cylinder engine that is offered in the Ram HD chassis cabs and pick up trucks. After the Ford Motor Co. was requested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA, the company has readied itself to recall about 144,000 F-150 Ford pick up trucks because of an issue arising wherein the air bag of the drivers seat may possibly deploy without warning.
The recall of F-150 Ford pick up trucks includes 135,000 pick up trucks from United States alone as well as 9,000 pick up trucks from Canada. The story began last month when the NHTSA insisted the Ford Motor Co. to recall 1.3 million of the F-150 Ford pick up trucks belonging to the model year 2004-2006, after many of its customers reported being hurt when their air bags were deployed inadvertently.

All manufacturers are fall over each other in a bid to attract the attention of the American consumers growing love for pick up trucks. The Chrysler Co. has introduced yet another Ram model to add to its already existing fleet in a bid to compete with the successful F Series of trucks by the Ford Motor Co.
Chrysler’s newest Ram is meant for those consumers who are looking to buy their first truck. So far this new model goes by the name of Adventurer as the official name has not yet been chosen. This truck borrows a lot from the Ram 1500 tradesman version which was presented last week at the Chicago Auto Show.
